Statement

Red Roads & Black is an exhibition based on old trails or routes
that pass through Nebraska. It examines the landscapes along these
corridors in the spirit that Eight Rivers & the Land visited our rivers.
This show is flexible for different sized galleries or display areas.
As early as 1720 European visitors were traveling native trails in
the region. In presenting Red Roads & Black, Mr. Darling explores
the landscapes along these old roads. Included are the Lewis and
Clark, the Nebraska City Cut-Off, the Ox Bow, The Oregon, The
Texas, Sawyers Road, The Sidney-Deadwood, and the Pony Express
Routes. Paintings from the core group reach into every part of the
state. The concepts of transition, borders, movement, and home are
raised in this presentation. The title of the show is derived from
Black Elk Speaks
, by Black Elk and John G. Neihardt.
