Inspiration enters my thoughts, sometimes unexpectedly,
and a new painting is created. A word, a glimpse of beauty, a fragrance,
a family activity, a historical event, or just by being observant
of the elements and activities around me seems to be the catalyst.
I can feel my paintings; the sun on my back, cool rain, wet mittens
and cold winds of winter, rumble and hiss of the train, thrill and
sound of skating on a frozen river, warmth and friendliness of cats,
dogs, and chickens, the bigness of cows, sound of waves rolling on
the beach, bare feet on wet sand, in cool water and on a gravel road,
smell of dinner cooking, the warmth and love of my Grandma, and I
paint. Some paintings are a singular memory and others are parts of
memories and experiences combined. Other paintings are of more recent
activities or impressions. Music and dance bring pictures to my mind
from places of which I am not aware, and images flow onto the canvas
surprising me with color and form.
I like working with all mediums but Oils are my
favorite media. I like the feel of applying it to the canvas, its
permanence and its soft patina But, whatever the medium, I shall continue
this passion to paint as long as my mind and hand will allow me to
do so.
