In March of 1993, the James Memorial Preservation Society was formed
to save the old historical library of Williston (pop. 13,131) from destruction.
Their purpose was to develop a Center for Visual Arts (art gallery,) and
a
place to hold educational forums, workshops, and meetings. Regular events
include Williston Art Association-Prairie Painters Invitational Show &
Sale,
Upper Missouri Camera Club Photography Show, Williston Area Wood-
workers Show and Junior High Art Class show. Art classes are held in the
lower level. Recently another room called Center Stage was renovated.
It has
a small stage and is ideal for reader's theater, poetry reading, piano
recitals, etc.
Grant money has been secured to make the building handicapped accessible.
Ramping has been completed to allow access to the lower level. Future
plans
include a small elevator to be installed to access the main gallery.
Hours: Tuesday-Friday Noon3 pm, and Saturdays & Sundays 1-5
pm during exhibits.
Art
Shelf-art store in gallery sells art supplies, local art and art books.
